Release for Ventura Raceway for 9-29-07

(Oxnard, CA September 24, 2007)Ventura Raceway will return to action Saturday night September 29 at 5:30pm with a full program of VRA Sprint Car and USAC Midget racing. Racing will take place at its Ventura County Fairgrounds Facility just off the 101 Freeway in Ventura California. Saturday night’s action will feature the final visit in 2007 of the USAC Midgets along with VRA Sprints, VRA/USAC Ford Focus and VRA Junior Focus racers.
In VRA action Saturday night Troy Rutherford will be going for a record fourth VRA Sprint Car win in a row. He has had a fabulous run the past three weeks with hard fought wins over the best VRA drivers. Last week he battled Josh Ford, Greg Taylor, Kevin Kierce and Eric Severson to get win number three. Saturday night these drivers and many others will be going all out to try to stop this run at three. Greg Taylor continues his point’s lead over Kevin Kierce. He currently holds a 285 point lead with the season winding down, with Dennis Rodriguez, Luis Espinoza and Eric Severson rounding out the top five in points.
USAC Midgets will be making their last 2007 appearance Saturday with point leader Johnny Rodriguez leading them into action. He holds an 86 point lead over Scott Pierovich. Saturday night’s USAC Midget event is the fourth and final event in the K & N Filters National Midget Driver of the Year Championship Program which awards a trophy to the top midget driver from across the US from various sanctioning bodies including USAC, NEMA Midget Series, UMARA Midgets and the Badger Midget Series. The drivers that night will be eligible for additional purse awards from the sponsors of this prestigious award which include Chevrolet, Ford, Mopar and Toyota Racing Development. These same sponsors will provide fan giveaways during the event. In addition the K & N Filters Cup National Midget Driver of the Year Trophy will be on display at the event.
Also in action Saturday night will be the USAC Ford Focus Midgets. With their season winding down, point leader Nic Faas will be doing all he can to try to keep out front 9of his nearest challengers Dennis Howell and Ricky Kirkbride. Robby Josett, 2006 VRA Junior Focus Champion took the Ford Focus win in the last event held at Bakersfield Speedway on September 16. He will be here to try to make it two wins in a row.
Our final class on Saturday will be our VRA Junior Focus Class. Point leader Austin Smith leads these up and coming racing stars into action. He is followed by Austin Mero, Alex Bowman, Justin Kierce and Dakota Kershaw in the point’s race.
Pit Gates open at 12 noon with front gates opening at 3:30 and racing getting under way at 5:30pm. Admission prices are: $14.00 for adults, $11.00 for Senior/Military and Juniors with a school id, $5.00 for children 7-12 with kids 6 and under free.
