(Oxnard, CA 9-18-07)Ventura Raceway is back in action this weekend September 22 with a full program of exciting racing action featuring VRA 360 Sprint Cars, Senior Sprints, Spot Compact and the last 2007 appearance of the popular IMCA Modifieds. Racing gets under way at 5:30pm at its Ventura County Fairgrounds facility. This weekend will mark the beginning of the crowning of Ventura's 2007 track champions as we crown the 2007 IMCA Modified Champion. 2006 champion Jack Parker leads the series by 15 points over past champion and last weeks main event winner Randy McGraw. If he finishes 14 or better in the 20 lap feature he will clinch his second championship and become the first ever back to back IMCA Champion at Ventura. With over 20 cars expected, the racing should be outstanding. In VRA Sprints, Ojai's Troy Rutherford will be going for three in a row this weekend. Greg Taylor finished second to him last weekend and continues to lead the series by 290 points over Kevin Kierce. The event started with a red flag on lap one for a wild flip by front row starter Chris Wakim and a spin by the other front row starter Ron Tjaarda. From that point on it was another exciting event that saw tight competition across the field. Taylor and Rutherford battled side by side for several laps before Rutherford finally took the lead for good for his second win in a row. They will both be back this Saturday to resume their quest for racing glory. In Senior Sprints last race winner Danny Miller will try to make it two in a row as he battles all the top senior drivers led by brother Wiley Miller, Steve Stasa, Bruce Douglass, and many others. The final group racing this weekend will be our Sport Compacts led by point leader Joel Chavez who is going for his first ever VRA championship. David Peterson, Randal Dougan , Mike Frazier and the rest of the VRA Sport Compact racers will be out to try to slow him down. Admission for this event is $14.00 for adults, $11.00 for seniors/military and Juniors, $5.00 for kids 7-12 and kids 6 and under are free.
