 Press Release

Release for Ventura Raceway for 9-1-07
(Oxnard, CA 8/28/07) This Saturday night September 1, at 5:30pm, Ventura Raceway will present a racing program that will appeal to all of its fans. On that night we will see the return of the VRA 360 Sprints, IMCA Modifieds, VRA Dwarf Cars along with our very popular Mini Dwarf Cars and Junior Midgets to the 1/5 mile Ventura Raceway clay bullring. On that night as a special event for our continuing “Celebration 30” festival, anyone born in 1977 can get a front gate adult admission into the races for $5.00 when they present an id with their 1977 birth date printed on it at the front gate.

VRA Sprints will be led into the event by point leader Greg Taylor and last week’s VRA 360 Sprint Car winner Kevin Kierce. Kierce will be going for two in a row after getting by John Nock to take the 30 lap feature last week. Taylor had a tough night finishing 14th, but he retains a 240 point lead over second place point challenger Kierce. Other VRA Sprint stars scheduled to appear include VRA Rookie of the Year leader Johnathan Henry. 2006 series Champion Luis Espinoza, Rick Hendrix, Chris Wakim, Steve Conrad, Eric Severson, Dennis Rodriguez and a host of others.

Also returning to racing this weekend will be our very popular IMCA Modified Class led by point leader 2006 series champion Jack Parker. Last week Austin Rodarte took his first ever IMCA Modified win over a strong field of 22 cars in their 20 lpa feature event. This class continues to grow as more and more drivers move into this class of open wheeled stock cars. Randy McGraw, Rick and Austin Rodarte, Jack Parker, Steve Smith, Randy Miller, Bill Waltman, Joe Weaver and many others will be here to resume their 2007 season point’s battle.

VRA Dwarf Cars also are making their return to competition Saturday night. Jim Scribelitto will lead the Pros and Ed Niedziecki will lead the Seniors as they return after a months absence. Brent Stevens who won the Pro FAIR event will be going for two in a row as will Ed Niedzwiecki who won the FAIR Senior event. These downsized sedans, coupes and truck bodied cars always provide exciting racing action for our fans.

The final groups racing this weekend will be our junior Midgets and Mini Dwarf cars. These classes for young up and coming junior racers have proven very popular with our fans. Riley Helland is leading in the Mini Dwarf Car Supercharger Division and Rickie Lewis leads in the Piston Division. In Junior Midgets Amanda Green leads Jessica Clark going into this week’s action.

Front gates open at 3:00 with the junior heats set for 3:30. Adult classes take to the track at 4:00 for warm-ups, with their first events getting started at 5:30.
