(Oxnard, CA 7/15/07) This Saturday night at 5:30 Ventura Raceway will
continue its exciting racing with week two of our “Celebration 30” and
another night of great short track racing at its Ventura County Fairgrounds
racing facility, located just off the 101 Freeway in Ventura. Saturday night we
will be featuring VRA Sprints, IMCA Modifieds, VRA Sport Compacts and our Junior
Ford Focus Class for junior drivers. Each of these exciting divisions will
entertain you with the best in short track racing to be seen anywhere. Our
”Celebration #30” Special for Saturday is the first 100 Paid admissions will
receive a free Ventura Raceway sipper bottle and for a $1.00 you can get a fill
up at Ovations Concession stands. Be sure to keep your sipper bottles as they
may be refilled for $2.00 for the remainder of the season.
Last Saturday night was another great night of racing for VRA Sprint Cars as
Kevin Kierce took a hard fought win over point leader Greg Taylor, in a most
exciting race, Kierce will be back Saturday to go for two in a row and win
number three on the year. His win narrowed Greg Taylor’s season point’s lead
to just 135 points as we reach the midpoint of the 2007 season. Rounding out the
top five in points are Luis Espinoza, Dennis Rodriguez and Rick Hendrix. With
USAC/CRA taking the weekend off, we may to see some of their competitors here
tonight. Next week VRA Sprints will be going to Santa Maria Speedway for round
two of the 2007 VRA/Bandit Grand Slam Series. Greg Taylor leads in points for
this special series after the first race at Bakersfield. Kevin Kierce, Brandon
Thomson, Johnathon Henry and John Knock are other VRA drivers currently in the
top ten in the series.
VRA Sport Compacts are back Saturday night with point leader Joel Chavez
trying to take another win in his number 20 Acura. Chavez took his fifth win of
the six races held so far in 2007 in the last race that this class raced here on
June 9. Other top Sport Compact drivers scheduled to appear include 2006 series
champion Jack Hoyt, David Peterson, Randal Dougan, Bill Changus and a host of
other to competitors in this entry level class.
IMCA Modifieds also return to action this weekend. This high powered open
wheel stock car class has thrilled the Ventura crowds all season with exciting
racing action and large car counts. Season point’s leader Randy McGraw holds a
narrow one point lead over Steve Smith after his win in the last race held on
June 16. 2006 series champion Jack Parker, Rick Rodarte, Bill Waltman, Joe
Weaver and other Ventura regulars will be there as well to try to hold off
visiting drivers from throughout California in the 20 lap feature event. .
VRA/USAC Ford Focus Midgets will also be a part of Saturday night’s event.
Last race 2006 VRA Junior Ford Focus Champion Robby Josett took the win over
Nick Carlson and Nic Faas. He will be back this weekend to try for two in a row
here against the best drivers in this fast and furious racing class.
The final class racing Saturday will be the VRA Junior Focus Midgets. This
class for up and coming derivers aged 13 to 16 has provided the Ventura fans
with some very good racing so far in 2007. Justin Kierce took the win on June 9
over, Austin Meiro, Alex Bowman and Scott Oliver Jr. These and other drivers
will be back tonight to continue their battle to see who will become the 2007
season champion.
Next week Ventura Raceway will take a weekend off as the Fairgrounds gets
ready for the 2007 Ventura County Fair which begins on Wednesday August 1. We
will be a part of this prestigious event as we stage two nights of racing at the
FAIR on Wednesday August 1 and Thursday August 2. Both nights will feature
exciting Demolition Derbies as well as VRA Sport Compacts, VRA Dwarf Cars, NMRA
TQ midgets and kid’s classes on Wednesday and IMCA Modifieds, Ford Focus
Midget and Junior Midget action on Thursday. Your admission to the FAIR will get
you into the races as well.
Pit Gates open at 12 noon with front gates opening at 3:30 and racing getting
under way at 5:30pm. Admission prices are: $14.00 for adults, $11.00 for
Senior/Military and Juniors with a school id, $5.00 for children 7-12 with kids
