(Oxnard, CA 3/25/07) Ventura Raceway will continue its 2007 racing season
on Saturday March 31, at 5:30pm at its Ventura County Fairgrounds racing
facility, conveniently located just off the 101 freeway in Ventura. On that
night Ventura Racing Association, VRA will showcase four adult classes. This is
our 30th year of presenting the best in short track racing, at the
Ventura County Fairgrounds, for race fans in Ventura County. Be watching for
special events to be held later in the season as we celebrate this special
season. After three great nights of racing that have kept fans on the edge of
their seats, Ventura Raceway is back Saturday night with four open wheel
classes. Featured Saturday night will be VRA Sprints, VRA Senior Sprints, IMCA
Modifieds and NMRA TQ Midgets.
VRA Sprint Cars have competed three times so far in 2007 and arguably they
have been the best opening three races ever seen at Ventura Raceway. Each night
Kevin Kierce has shown his outstanding driving talent leading in all three
events. He won opening night. Then an on track incident took him out of a chance
to win on night two against Ventura favorite and USAC/CRA driving star, Cory
Kruseman. Finally he led most of race three only to be passed by Wes Richardson
on the last turn of the last lap last week. Richardson's popular win is his
first in VRA Sprint competition. He powered his way to the front by driving the
high line, while Kierce kept to the low line. Luis Espinoza, who finished second
in both previous nights of racing, finished fourth. This finish gives him enough
points to move him into the 2007 point's lead. Kevin Kierce is now in second
place in season points followed by Wes Richardson and Dennis Rodriguez. Greg
Taylor finally was able to finish a race without mechanical problems and moves
into fifth in points. Other top finishes last week were scored by Brandon
Thomson, John Nock, Errol Sack and Eric Severson. These and all the other top
VRA drivers will be here to continue the 2007 series Saturday.
VRA Senior Sprints return to action Saturday for their second event of the
new season. Opening night winner and current point's leader Steve Stasa is back
to go for two wins in a row. He will be challenged by past series champions
Wiley Miller who finished second opening night and 2006 Champion Ron Bach. Other
drivers scheduled to appear include Oren Prosser Sr., 2006 season runner-up
Bruce Douglass, Bob Alderman and Mike Cook. These over 45 year old racers always
race hard and fast in their heats and main event.
IMCA Modifieds return as well after an exciting race last week that saw 2006
track champion Jack Parker take his first win of the 2007 season. Finishing
second last week was Reno-Fernly, Nevada IMCA Track Champion Steve McGee. He has
made the long trek to Ventura from Carson City, Nevada the first two races of
2007. His two excellent finishes have him in the 2007 Ventura IMCA point's lead
by 4 points over opening night winner Steve Smith, going into Saturday night's
racing action. With 23 cars taking the green flag for their main event last
week, the racing action was exciting for the entire event. Randy McGraw, Brad
Prows, Rick Rodarte, Bill Waltman and many others will also be there trying to
get their first 2007 IMCA win.
Our Final class Saturday night will be the NMRA TQ Midgets. These open wheel
racers always put on a great show for the Ventura Fans when they race here at
Ventura. Kenny Wiley currently leads in their points, after his win at Hanford,
followed by Bruce Hiroshima and Ron Ahrendt.
Raceway front gates open at 3:30pm. Our classes go on the track at 4:00pm for
warm-ups and racing then gets under way at 5:30 with heat races. Admission
prices are: Adults: $14.00, Seniors, Military and Juniors: $11.00, Children
