August 20, 2007 --- Levi Jones of Olney, Ill. carries a 104-point lead over Darren Hagen into Saturday night’s Lucas Oil National Sprint Car race at Sharon Speedway in Hartford, Ohio. The race is the first for USAC Sprint cars at the track since Kenny Jacobs won there in 1987.
Jones has four feature wins, three seconds and a pair of thirds so far this year but has not won since early June at Hagerstown, Md.
Jones’ teammate, Ricky Stenhouse, Jr., is coming off a victory in Saturday’s “Tony Bettenhausen 100” at the Illinois State Fairgrounds in Springfield. Stenhouse is fifth in the current standings and is the only driver this season to win National races in all three USAC racing series, Silver Crown, Sprint and Midget.
In related series news, long-time USAC technical steward Ron Scudder of Champaign, Ill., will assume the duties of Lucas Oil USAC National Sprint Car Chief Steward, beginning with Saturday night’s race at Sharon Speedway.
