JULY 24, 2007 --- Levi Jones of Olney, Ill. emerged from the
recently-completed Lucas Oil “Indiana Sprint Week” with the Lucas Oil
National Sprint Car Series point lead going into the August 4 Cardinal
Contracting “Joe James/Pat O’Connor Classic” at the Salem (Ind.) Speedway.
Dave Darland of Lincoln, Ind. earned his third Lucas Oil “Indiana Sprint
Week” title with consistent finishes, including another feature victory Friday
night at the Bloomington Speedway. Driving the Pace Brothers Construction/DSR
Maxim/Chevy, Darland passed Brady Bacon on lap 25 and led the final six laps to
beat Jerry Coons Jr., Robert Ballou, Bacon and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. Darland’s
11th-place finish in Saturday’s finale at Haubstadt, Ind. gave him an 18-point
margin over runner-up Jon Stanbrough in the final standings.
The top five drivers and car owners in the ISW standings will split $10,000
in point fund prizes posted by BDP International.
Jerry Coons Jr. of Tucson, Ariz. and Daron Clayton of Sikeston, Mo. Also
scored feature wins in last week’s ISW action. Coons won Thursday’s
30-lapper at Kamp Motor Speedway in Boswell, Ind. driving the
Kroger-Tide/Bounty-Pringles F-5/Mopar. Coons passed Darland on lap 13 and led
the rest of the way to beat Darland, Stanbrough, Jesse Hockett and Mat Neely.
Clayton captured Saturday’s 30-lap finale at Tri-State Speedway in
Haubstadt, leading the final eight laps after passing Ricky Stenhouse Jr. on lap
23. Stenhouse finished second behind Clayton’s Hoosier Tire/Weld Wheels DRC/Claxton,
with Chad Boespflug, Stanbrough and Dustin Morgan rounding out the
‘top-five.”
Drivers Josh Ford, Morgan, Darland, Robert Ballou, Josh Spencer, Cole Whitt
and Kevin Swindell all earned $250 “Hard Work Awards” posted by Buck &
Betty Rice of Pro Source Consulants in Grand Saline, Tex. while Brady Bacon
earned their $500 bonus for the lowest point-scoring driver to earn a starting
berth in all eight feature events through heat and semi competition. Fast
Qualifier cash awards from the RIces went to Darland, Stanbrough, Morgan, Coons,
Neil Shepherd and Stenhouse.
Darland and Pace Brothers Racing also received Power Mig 140c, 110v Welders
from Lincoln Electric, while each race-winning car owner received cash awards
from K & N Engineering. The top three drivers and car owners in the final
ISW standings also received distinctive state of Indiana trophies from Gene
Bedwell of Affordable Awards in Terre Haute, Ind.
