OHIO’S TOLEDO, MANSFIELD SPEEDWAYS HOST SPRINTS;
EAST WIRE-TO-WIRE IN 30-LAP RIR FEATURE
|
JULY 2, 2007 --- Only five points separate Levi Jones and Darren Hagen in the Lucas Oil USAC National Sprint Car standings entering this week’s back-to-back races at Toledo and Mansfield, Ohio.
The Sprint cars and USAC National Midgets share the programs at Toledo and Mansfield, with 30-lap features for each at each track. Friday’s “Hemelgarn Racing/Super Fitness Night” unfolds at Toledo Speedway and Saturday’s races are at Mansfield Motorsports Park.
Jones and Hagen finished fifth and seventh respectively last year at Toledo behind race winner Bobby Santos III.
Bobby East of Brownsburg, Ind. led all 30 laps to win Saturday morning’s rain-delayed 30-lap Lucas Oil USAC National Sprint Car race at Richmond (Va.) International Raceway. East won the pole during Friday qualifications in his Klatt Enterprises Ford Racing/The Car Lot Beast/Ford, posting a lap at 138.002 mph. In the race he sped away from the field, then held off a determined late-race bid by Mike Murgoitio to grab the win. Murgoitio, of Meridian, Idaho, brought his Hoosier Tire/Weld Wheels Beast home second ahead of Darren Hagen, Bryan Clauson and Billy Wease.
The Richmond race was delayed from its original Friday start and shortened from 60 to 30 laps after rains washed out Friday night's RIR activities.
