Levi Jones of Olney, Ill. continues to lead the 2007 Lucas Oil National Sprint Car standings as the series prepares for its annual trek to Richmond (Va.) International Raceway. The June 29 race is held in conjunction with the USAC Silver Crown Series and the Indy Racing League at the 3/4-mile paved RIR oval. A 60-lap feature event is on tap for the Sprints on Friday.
Jones finished third in Thursday’s 30-lap feature at Gas City (Ind.) I-69 Speedway but did not finish Saturday’s 30-lapper at O’Reilly Raceway Park in Indianapolis, Ind. His lead over series runner-up Darren Hagen stands at 25 points.
Jon Stanbrough of Jamestown, Ind. claimed the 2007 “Border Wars XIII” championship with his victory at Gas City, leading all 30 laps in the Fox Brothers Racing Jarvis Enterprises/Foxco Racing Engines DRC/Foxco. Brady Bacon, Jones, Brady Short and Brad Sweet completed the “top-five.”
Bobby Santos III of Franklin, Mass. Won Saturday’s “Toyota USAC Racing Classic” 30-lapper at O’Reilly Raceway Park, leading all but four laps in his Wirtgen America/Santos Motorsports Beast/Gaerte. Bobby East finished second ahead of Bryan Clauson, fast qualifier Eric Gordon and Hagen. Clauson led four laps in the middle of the race.
