Santa Maria, CA - 7-25-07...This Saturday night at Santa Maria Speedway CCIS
Information Solutions presents Century 21 Hometown Realty Bandit/VRA Grand Slam
Sprint Cars, IMCA Modifieds and Mini Stocks.
*The Bandit/VRA Grand Slam is a four-race series that began April 7 at
Bakersfield Speedway, runs the second and third rounds at Santa Maria Speedway
Saturday night and October 13, and wraps up at Ventura Raceway October 27. The
Grand Slam pits the best Bandit cars and drivers against their counterparts from
the Ventura Racing Association, as-well-as other top 360 drivers in the state.
The point leader after one round is Greg Taylor, of Ojai, who is 4 points ahead
of Visalia's Jesse Mack, the local Bandit Series point leader, and 8 points up
on Kerman's Davey Pombo. Fourth place Josh Ford, of Camarillo, is 16 points out
of the lead with Michael Trimble another 2 points behind.
*Local cars will be running for Bandit Series points as-well-as Grand Slam
points. Mack hold the lead on the strength of seven top-five main event finishes
in eight events, five of them victories. Jimmy Thompson, of Grover Beach, is
second, a distant 97 points back. Third through fifth are: Atascadero's Joey
Layman (-111), Santa Maria's Bill Jones (-141) and Templeton's Ryan Guy (-165).
*The top-five in the IMCA Modified division are the only drivers who have
competed in all nine events in 2007, underlining the importance of consistency
in the IMCA point system. Santa Maria's Tim Breshears is only 11 points in front
of Arroyo Grande's Chad Weber in the struggle for the championship. Danny Lauer,
of Santa Maria, is 19 points out of the lead, followed by Santa Maria's Josh
Vogt (-45) and Buellton's Chris Whitford (-65).
*Mini Stock will see action for the first time since July 7 when Ken Kehs, of
Arroyo Grande, captured his fifth main event win to extend his championship lead
to 29 points over Arroyo Grande's Justin Crockett and to 72 points over Matt
Sweeney, of Van Nuys, in third. Fourth place Justin Marsh, of Nipomo, and fifth
place Ben Caswell, of Santa Barbara, trial by 75 and 86 markers respectively.
*Gates for Saturday night's show will open at three, with qualifying at five and
racing at six. Admission prices are $18.00 for adults, $14.00 for seniors (65+),
$3.00 for children 6 to 12, 5 and under free. The Speedway no longer accepts
credit cards.
*SMS is located 1/4-mile north of the 101/166 interchange on Hutton Road. For
