APRIL 23, 2007 --- Two-time Young Automotive Rocky Mountain Sprint Car Champion
Jimmy Wysong of Salt Lake city, Utah has apparently hung up his helmet but
don’t count two-time former series champion Jim Waters out of contention for
the 2007 title. Waters won the 2003 and 2004 championships.
The 2007 series debuts this Saturday at Rocky Mountain Raceways in the Utah
capital and Waters is set to field three cars for himself, Mel Andrus and female
driver Audra Sasselli. Sasselli, who resides in Fresno, Calif., is tied with
Stephanie Mockler for the most USAC career feature victories by a female driver
– five.
Dave Fitzgerald of Salt Lake City needs one feature victory to tie Wysong as
the winningest driver in USAC history in the state of Utah. Wysong has 14 and
Fitzgerald 13.
A 40-lap feature is on tap and the race also offers points toward USAC’s
2007 Western Sprint Car Championship, meaning series point leader Kody Swanson
of Kingsburg, Calif. and defending Western king Tony Hunt are expected to be in
the field.
Hunt ranks second in the Western standings, only one point behind Swanson
after the April 14 Madera, Calif. opener.
