SILVER CROWN FINALE NOVEMBER 8 AT PHOENIX;
YELEY LEADS ALL 67 TO WIN “KANSAS LOTTERY 100”
|
October 1, 2007 --- Bud Kaeding nearly wrapped up his second consecutive K & N USAC Silver Crown Championship Saturday, finishing fifth in the “Kansas Lottery 100” at Kansas Speedway in Kansas City, Kansas. He takes a nearly-insurmountable 54-point lead over Wayne Reutimann Jr. into the “Copper World Classic” series finale November 8 at Phoenix (Ariz.) International Raceway.
NASCAR veteran J.J. Yeley hopped out of his Busch car and into his K & N USAC Silver Crown Car at Kansas Speedway Saturday, then proceeded to lead all 67 laps of the “Kansas Lottery 100” for his third series victory this season. In so doing, he gave his A.J. Foyt entry a series record 265 consecutive race laps led over the last four pavement races.
Yeley started eighth in his Greer Special/Foyt Racing C & R/Chevy but used the top of the racetrack to slingshot to the lead on the opening lap and he was about a second and a half ahead of pole starter Reutimann when the checkered flag waved 42 minutes later, averaging 141.238 mph. for the 100.5-mile distance.
“The car was totally tight in qualifying so we put it back on the scales and found a few things wrong,” said Yeley after the race. “We got it better, obviously. After running the Busch race, I hoped everybody went low in turn one on the start and I went to the top and got the lead off turn two. George (Snider) and the crew do such a good job with this car that it makes it fun to drive. I had to win today so I could run at Phoenix in November, so I’m looking forward to the series finale Nov. 8 at Phoenix International Raceway.”
Cameron Dodson finished third, ahead of Jerry Coons Jr. and series point leader Bud Kaeding, whose lead stands at 54 points over Reutimann going into the Phoenix finale.
Only two yellows slowed Saturday’s race. Debris forced a caution on lap 11 and Pablo Donoso blew a tire and spun on the backstretch on lap 39.
