September 17, 2007 - Bud Kaeding of Campbell, Calif. finished 10th in Saturday’s “New Hampshire 50” at Loudon, N.H. and carries a 47-point lead over Wayne Reutimann, Jr. of Zephyr Hills, Fla. into this Saturday’s Chevrolet Presents An American Revolution 27th “4-Crown Nationals” at the Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio. A 50-lap K & N Silver Crown feature follows a 25-lap USAC National Midget and 30-lap Lucas Oil USAC National Sprint feature to conclude Saturday’s racing action at the 1/2-mile dirt oval.
NASCAR veteran and USAC Triple Crown Champion J.J. Yeley of Phoenix, Ariz. won Saturday’s “New Hampshire 50” K & N USAC Silver Crown race at New Hampshire Speedway, halted after 31 laps due to darkness.
Yeley led all 31 laps of the race which was originally scheduled for 75 laps, shortened to 50, then checkered flagged after 31 as darkness fell on the track. Yeley piloted A.J. Foyt’s #14 Greer Special/Foyt Racing C & R/Chevy to the win, the fifth for the car and second for Yeley this season.
Teammate Pablo Donoso of Chile finished second, followed by Brian Tyler, Josh Wise and Aaron Pierce.
I wish I had someone to race a little more with during the race,” said Yeley, who had a comfortable lead until yellow flags came out. “But, being out front wasn’t too bad. Seeing the track wasn’t too bad until the final caution. I have a smoked visor and when they told us debris on the front stretch, I lifted my visor and couldn’t see any better. I figured then it was time to call it and they did.”
“These cars are really fun to drive,” added Donoso. “This car will prepare any driver for Indy Car or NASCAR with the way they handle and how you have to drive them.” Saturday’s victory was the fifth this season for the A.J. Foyt Enterprises team.
Cameron Dodson won the pole at New Hampshire at a speed of 127.057 mph in his Hoosier Tires/Red Line Oil Special.
A team to watch Saturday at Eldora will be the RW Motorsports team, whose drivers, Mat Neely and Jerry Coons Jr., finished first and third in last year’s “4-Crown” 50-lapper. Series point leader Kaeding was seventh last year.
