APRIL 30, 2007 --- Tracy Hines and A.J. Foyt continue their quest for the
2007 USAC Silver Crown Series Championship presented by K & N Engineering
this Saturday when Iowa Speedway hosts the “Casey’s General Stores USAC
Triple Crown.”
Hines drives the #14 Foyt Racing C & R/Chevy fielded by the four-time
Indianapolis 500 champion and that team won at Homestead-Miami Speedway in
March. The results is that Hines has a 12-point lead over former series champion
Paul White going into Saturday’s tripleheader which also features the Lucas
Oil USAC National Sprint Cars and the USAC National Midgets.
Hines and the rest of the field will first aim at Dave Steele’s 1-lap track
qualifying mark of 135.999 mph, then compete in a 100-lap feature race on the
7/8-mile oval.
Saturday’s race is round three of this year’s 14-race slate and will be
followed closely by the May 10 “USAC Silver Crown Showdown at Darlington” in
South Carolina.
Saturday’s Silver Crown field also includes defending series champion Bud
Kaeding of Campbell, Calif., still seeking his first 2007 victory, as well as
2006 USAC National Midget Champion Jerry Coons Jr. of Tucson, Ariz. Aaron Pierce
of Muncie, Ind. is a top threat, since he already holds the all-time USAC Silver
Crown qualifying record of 175.012, set at Homestead-Miami.
Wayne Reutimann and Brian Tyler are two more 2006 series feature winners
among the entered drivers Saturday.
International flavor comes in the form of Chile’s Pablo Donoso, who teams
with Hines for car owner A.J. Foyt.
In addition to Saturday’s 100-mile Silver Crown race, the Midgets and
Sprint Cars each have a 25-lap feature on tap.
