IOWA UP NEXT FOR SILVER CROWN SERIES; HINES LEADS 1-2 FOYT SWEEP AT HOMESTEAD
|
MARCH 26, 2007 - Tracy Hines’s USAC Silver Crown Series presented by K&N Engineering victory last Friday at Homestead-Miami Speedway in Florida put him atop the point standings, as the New Castle, Ind. driver led the final four laps to score his fourth victory in his last seven starts.
Hines, driving for A.J. Foyt Enterprises, led a 1-2 sweep for Foyt’s team, as he and Pablo Donoso crossed the stripe ahead of third-place finisher Cameron Dodson. All three drivers are expected to return to action May 5 at Iowa Speedway for the “Casey’s General Store USAC Triple Crown.”
Hines trailed Wayne Reutimann Jr. for about 10 laps before Reutimann’s car popped out of gear on Lap 64, slowing his car and giving Hines and Donoso first and second in their identical Greer Special C&R/Chevys. Reutimann eventually got the car back in gear, but was relegated to a fifth-place finish, one spot behind series debutant Ryan Moore. Reutimann led a race-high 55 laps.
Polesitter Aaron Pierce led the first eight laps before Reutimann took over, and stayed in second before blowing an engine on Lap 51. He eventually finished 14th. Defending race winner Brian Tyler finished 10th after starting last on the grid due to clutch problems during qualifying on Thursday.
Donoso, the first Chilean to compete in the USAC Silver Crown Series, looks to improve one more spot during the Iowa race, as his initial runner-up finish came at the 7/8-mile track. Dave Steele won the race last season from the pole.
