(July
4, 2007 - Hanford, CA) -- It’s appropriate to have fireworks during the
4th of July celebration and that’s what’s expected this Saturday at Kings
Speedway in Hanford when SCRA resumes action. The “Wingless Warriors”
Sprint car group will “fire-up” their 360 c.i. engines and light up the
skies with hot and heavy action on the 3/8th dirt facility.
This seasons’ action has been dominated by two veteran drivers, Davey Pombo
and Peter Murphy, who between them, have captured six of the eight main events
contested. In addition to each winning three, the pair have finished one-two
in four of the events. By virtue of their overall dominance, Pombo leads the
season point standings with 590, only 28 ahead of Murphy’s 562. While
each week becomes more frustrating for other veteran contenders, including
last year’s series champion Jonathan Logan, Rusty Carlile, Kiwi Alexander,
Richard Harvey Jr., and Daniel Hood, each become more determined to break
through and take home the 30-lap main event trophy.
This week will be no different and they’ll join forces with teenage
rookies John Niggli (one Heat race victory), Myles Bishop (one Dash and one
Heat race victory), Justyne Hamblin (one quick qualifying time and one Heat
win), Jace VanderWeerd, Adam Frith-Smith and USAC Midget standout Michael
Faccinto, in an attempt to wrestle victory away from Pombo and Murphy.
Sixteen-year-old Faccinto, who teams with Murphy on the potent Tom Tarlton
team, has been nothing less than sensational during his three stints with SCRA,
including a podium finish on June 2nd.
Also expected to join the bandwagon and overthrow the two leaders will be
Jeff Gardner, Matt Day, Brian Schuler, Kevin Barnes, Albert Pombo (Davey’s
cousin), John Iturriria, Dave Knott and Jim Riddell.
