APRIL 9, 2007 --- Brian Tyler led all 150 laps Saturday night as the
PRA Big Car Series began its second season at South Georgia Motorsports Park in
Cecil, Georgia. Tyler was fast qualifier and drew the pole position in the PRA's
unique system of determining the top 6 starting positions.
Wayne Reutimann, Junior passed A.J. Fike on the last lap to finish 2nd four
seconds behind Tyler. Fike ended up 3rd and Eric Gordon was 4th. Nascar Nextel
Cup star Ryan Newman was 5th.
The defending PRA Big Car Champion Chet Fillip finished last in the 16 car
field, dropping out with mechanical trouble after just 16 laps, bringing out the
first caution. The only other caution period was when the cars of Alex Pruett
and Mike Lichty hit the second turn wall late in the event, but neither driver
was injured.
Tyler was driving the #4 Contos Racing Pink Ford/Beast that Eric Gordon drove
to victory in the 2006 opener at Illiana Motor Speedway in Schererville,
Indiana.
The top 6 qualifiers drew Easter Eggs with a starting position hidden in each
one. After Tyler drew the #1 spot, he taped a pair of pink rabbit ears on the
top of his helmet. They stayed there the entire race distance, and Brian
credited them with helping the aerodynamics of the car.
