Hanford,
Ca – May 7, 2007…After finishing 2nd in the previous
SCRA Sprint car outings, Peter Murphy and the Tarlton & Son,
Inc. racing team put it all together and brought home win #1 with
the SCRA Sprint cars.
The
immaculately prepared Tarlton & Son, Tachi Palace Hotel &
Casino, Ridgeline Framing, Sharp Insurance, VMAC, BR Motorsports.
Matt & Glass #21 machine was fast right out of the box.
In
preliminary festivities - Peter had his “elbows up”, and on his
qualifying run, proceeded to take the Blaine Steele wrenched Maxim
to a 2nd quick qualifying lap on the evening. “Murph”
then crossed the line in the 3rd spot in Heat-2, and
finished 4th in the dash.
Peter
was “hungry” for his first win of the season and would not be
denied this evening. When flagman Lee Jaskowiak dropped the green
flag and the lights went green, Murphy was a man on a mission, and
turned the Tom Tarlton owned mount into a rocket! After taking the
lead on lap-11, he never looked back and brought home win #1 in
convincing fashion!
You
finally slapped that monkey off of your back!
“Yeah, it was coming to a point where I was getting tired of
running second so many times. Blaine Steele was there and dialed us
in just right. He’s really good with me. Jason Wheelock was with
me as always, and I couldn’t do it without them. The whole team
did a great job. I was really good in traffic, and it didn’t
matter who was in my line, I could move anywhere on the race
track.”
What’s
On Tap! Next week, May 12th,
the team heads into Bakersfield Speedway’s tight confines. The
last time we visited the bullring, it was for the Grand Slam series
event where we finished 5th. The chase for the
Championship is heating up, as Peter and Davey Pombo will continue
to fight tooth-and-nail for the 2007 SCRA Championship. Going into
this weekend, Peter trails the masher from
Kerman
, by 12-points for the top spot.

Question
of the week! Ashley Wheeler
from
Lodi
,
California
asks. “Didn’t you help Steve Kinser
at the
Indianapolis
500?”
Peter
Answers! “Yes I did. It was
in ‘97. I did a lot of things for Steve at Indy. They asked me if
I wanted to work ‘over-the-wall’, but I declined. I got his
helmet ready, tear offs, his earplugs, and the radio for his helmet.
I handed his drink to him over the wall. I also would tell him over
the radio to reset his fuel button. I would radio him, and tell him
to watch his speed entering and exiting the pits. I also had the
privilege of standing on the straightaway during all the pre-race
festivities. As a matter of fact, I was standing right by Jim Nabors
when he sung, “Back Home Again in
Indiana
”. Even though I’m from
Australia
, I know who Jim Nabors is. It is
something that I will never forget”.
