(APRIL 13, 2007, PERRIS, CA) USAC racing legend Dave Darland will be at
the wheel of the Nadine Keller owned #94 when Temecula Valley Pipe & Supply
presents the Lucas Oil USAC/CRA Sprint Cars at Perris Auto Speedway this
Saturday night. Spectator gates will open at 5:00 PM with racing at 7:00.
Darland, the two time defending Budweiser Oval Nationals champion from
Lincoln, Indiana, will substitute for 1999 Oval Nationals Champion "Super
Rickie" Gaunt. Gaunt is on vacation and the crew was going to park the car
until he came back. However, when the USAC National Sprint Car Series opener
slated for Saturday in North Vernon, Indiana was canceled due to inclement
weather on Friday morning, phone calls were made and Darland jumped at the
opportunity to head west for a guaranteed night of racing.
Darland, who turned 40 last September, is one of only four drivers in history
to win championships in all three of USAC's major divisions. He won the National
Sprint Car Championship in 1999 and the National Midget Championship in 2001 and
2002. He also won the 1997 Silver Crown title.
Saturday's event will be taped and shown on at a later date on the Versus
Channel's "Lucas Oil Motorsports Hour." Versus, the television home of
the National Hockey League in the United States, serves more than 70 million
households nationwide.
Saturday's Darland spiked speed competition will include qualifying, four
10-lap heat races, a 12 lap B main and a 30 lap A main event for the USAC/CRA
Sprint Cars. The WRA drivers will contest a heat and main event for antique
Sprint Cars and Midgets.
On Friday, the red-hot drag racing action at the Street Legal Strip at The
PAS will continue. Friday's gates will open at 5:00 PM with racing at 6:00.
