(MARCH 26 2007, PERRIS,
CA) Starting
last Saturday night and continuing through April 14th, Perris Auto
Speedway will be raising funds for the fourth year in a row for the American
Cancer Society’s Relay for Life. The
PAS’ goal is to raise $10,000.00 this year.
This Saturday’s show
will feature the Art’s Concrete Pumping Extreme Late Models, MC Builders Super
Stocks, PASSCAR Modifieds and the first 2007 appearance of the California
Lightning Sprint Cars. Spectator
gates will open at 5:00 PM with racing at 6:30.
“Thanks to the
generosity of our great fans, drivers, crews and officials, we have raised
$10,000.00 for the Relay for Life each of the last three years,” promoter Don
Kazarian said on Wednesday morning. “We
plan to continue to help with the fight against this dreaded disease every year.
At intermission this Saturday and through April 14th, the drivers will be
heading into the stands to collect donations from the fans.
Whether it is a penny or a $100.00 bill, it all helps fight the battle.
Everyone gets involved. We
will also have some special gifts available via raffles.”
The Relay for Life event
will be held on April 14th and 15th at the Lakeside Middle
School and more than 1,000 people are expected to attend.
Festivities will include a 24-hour run/walk event, entertainment, local
bands, food, a Luminaria ceremony for cancer survivors, kids camp and more.
The Relay for Life began in 1985 at
the University of Puget Sound when Dr. Gordon Klatt walked and ran solo around a
track and raised $27,000.00. Since then the Relay for Life has awarded more than
$2.4 billion in grants for cancer research and has more than two million
dedicated volunteers nationwide.
