(June
2, 2007) –
Steve
Pemberton came to run with NCMA this evening because it’s the “closest track
to home.” and took home the win! Pemberton
comes by this somewhat naturally. His grandpa is one of the racing Hogge’s
(The II) and dad, Walter Pemberton is wrenching on the car too.
Good racer + Good Crew = win.
The
evening started with heats being run. Dan
Gonderman of
Antioch
, leader in both Select Series points and NCMA Dirt points, took the lead from
the get go. Pemberton was not far
behind to claim second and a spot in the Trophy Dash.
Heat II had Keith Shipherd from
Pleasant Hill
get around
Atwater
’s Cameron Beard but both claimed Trophy
Dash spots.
The
Dash was set, Beard drew the pole, Pemberton on the
outside, Shipherd behind Beard, and Gonderman, last
man in. Beard made a good go of it,
as he kept the lead. Pemberton
stuck right with him to end in second.
Shipherd made a slip to the high side and
Gonderman took third.
The
Main Event started with Jimmy Lavell’s Mauri
Financial Services Sprinter on the pole, “Dinamite”
Dave Press in the shot gun.
Concord
’s Burt Siverling and David Goodwill from
Napa
made up the second row. The Power Up
Concrete Pumping sprint piloted by Beard held the five spot to start.
Pemberton was supposed to start next to Beard, but his car
wouldn’t start and he had to go to the very last position.
Press grabbed the lead and was holding on well.
Lavell was sticking up there pretty good and
holding second. Goodwill
had Gonderman right on his tail trying to root him out of third.
This was making some pretty exciting racing.
By this time, Pemberton was working his Midstate
Fleet Repair #43 around everyone, by lap eight he was in second and challenging
Press for the lead. Run up on
Press, backing off, running up and backing off.
With about five laps to go Press made that one bobble, and Pemberton knew
what to do about it. Pemberton took the win, and Press was right behind him.
Lavell had his best ever finish on dirt with
third. Goodwill’s Lito
Auto Body racer finished fourth and Gonderman rounded out the top five for owner
Sam Davies. Beard had a tough finish to the evening as he ran over another
racer’s tire and busted his rear end. “I’ve
got another one” he stated after the race and he will be there again.
NCMA
Sprints return to the Pavement of Madera Speedway this Saturday night, June 9th.
