Haubstadt, IN - July 30, 2007. An exciting weekend of sprint car racing is in the offering with the Hoosier Tire Midwest Sprint Car Series scheduled to race both Friday and Saturday night this coming weekend. Point leaders Kyle Cummins, John Memmer, and Alex Shanks are expected to lead the touring circuit into the high banks of Paducah International Raceway Friday night August 3rd. Memmer also leads the Engler Machine and Tool Rookie of the Year chase.
It will be the first time that the MSCS drivers have competed on the 3/8s mile Paducah oval which certainly meets the dirt track definition of a super speedway. The facility will not only be a new
challenge but a level playing field. Veterans and Rookies will be pushed into action for the same initial first time MSCS experience. Drivers expecting to compete with MSCS for the first time are reminded that the series has a tire rule which requires that a Hoosier DT-3 be used on the right rear of the car.
Saturday night the action shifts to Tri-State Speedway in Haubstadt, IN. The occasion is the third annual Hoosier Sprint Nationals. The track preparation for the quarter mile always adds an exciting dimension to the outstanding competition, especially evident so far this season. The distance is 50 laps and the prize is $10,000 to the winner. The track held a 50 lap event in June to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the facility with Jon Stanbrough taking the victory. He also won the night before that weekend which was the first of three weekends this season with back to back events on the MSCS schedule.
The most recent MSCS event was won by Daron Clayton. The July 8th race also served as the KISS Championship and Clayton and Jon Stanbrough gave the crowd a race to remember. Imagine that kind of
excitement for 20 additional laps and the potential this race offers takes on a new meaning.
Past winners of the MSCS Hoosier Sprint Nationals include Kevin Briscoe for the inaugural event in 2005 and Daron Clayton during last season. The competition during the heats to make the starting lineup for the Nationals is tough. No qualifications are held and drivers must race their way into the A-main lineup. So far drivers who have made the A main both years include Kyle Cummins, Mat Neely, Alex Shanks, A.J. Anderson, Brad Sweet, Jerry Ruble, and Hud Cone. This ranks as an achievement and certainly not an easy task! Preliminary action served to keep each Hoosier Sprint Nationals winner out of the final line-up the other year they competed.
The Hoosier Sprint Nationals is a tough race but the reward is threefold. Start with $10,000 cash along with a trophy that will continue to mark a career achievement. The winner will also continue to race with prestige and honor having won the Hoosier Sprint Nationals. Perhaps someday there will be a two-time winner! That too could happen this year!
