Haubstadt, IN - March 24, 2007. With the opening race
just a few weeks away, Hoosier Tire Midwest Sprint Car Series Officials would
like to take this opportunity to announce the names of those drivers who will
make up the new provisional list for the upcoming 2007 season. The list consists
of the top 12 drivers in last years points standings. This procedure is outlined
in detail in the rulebook.
Those drivers include Alex Shanks, Kyle Cummins, Chris Windom,
Jerry Ruble, Chase Stockon, Jeff Davis, Daron Clayton, Hunter Schuerenberg, Hud
Cone, Kyle Wissmiller, Donny Brackett, and Kevin Briscoe. These twelve drivers
have been awarded two (2) provisional starting spots each for 2007. The drivers
are listed here in the order of eligibility as we begin the season.
Five of these drivers find themselves on the MSCS Provisional
List for the first time. They are Kyle Cummins, Chris Windom, Donny Brackett,
and '06 rookies Jeff Davis and Hunter Schuerenberg. That also means that there
are five drivers who can no longer rely on a provisional during a race or two
this summer to help offset some misfortune or hard luck in preliminary events.
These forthcoming opportunities were earned during successful
2006 campaigns. The provisional list provides the top 12 MSCS sprint car drivers
added encouragement to continue to follow the series regularly this season. The
benefit is then passed along to the race fans who will then have increased
opportunities to watch the very best drivers on any given race night.
Once the feature lineup has been set at each track, MSCS
officials will begin at the top of the list and offer the option to take a
starting spot to the first driver on the event's provisional list that did not
make the starting line-up in preliminaries. Drivers do have a choice. They can
accept the offer or decline it. If a driver declines the offer, the official
will confer with the next driver on down the '07 provisional list who is
eligible and not already in the field. The first provisional driver on the list
accepting will join the tail of the field.
Once a driver has used both provisional starting spots, his name
will be removed from further consideration. In 2006 three drivers used both of
their provisional starts. In all six drivers or half the group found themselves
in a position where they needed to use a provisional to start the feature. It is
a nice benefit for a driver and his car owner to have in a pinch. Steady top
finishes this season and a top finish in the 2007 Midwest Sprint Car Series
points standings should give a new group the same opportunity next season.
