MARCH 6, 2007 - NASCAR Nextel Cup Series veteran Ken Schrader
has filed an entry for the March 8-9 Western Allstars Late Model races at the
Las Vegas Dirt Classic. The Las Vegas Dirt Classic will be held on the
half-mile dirt oval at Las Vegas Motor Speedway as part of LVMS' NASCAR Weekend.
Schrader is the second full-time NASCAR Nextel Cup Series driver scheduled to
enter the two-day show: J.J. Yeley will compete in the USAC/CRA Sprint Car
Series portion of the event.
Schrader is no stranger to LVMS' dirt track, having raced a dirt Late Model
there last March. "We ran the race last year, and we ran second,"
Schrader said. "We really had a good time. Once I found out the late models
would be back this year, I really wanted to do it again. Plus, the USAC sprints
are going to be there and I love to watch them."
The Las Vegas Dirt Classic will feature two complete programs of racing for
the USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series and the Western Allstars in conjunction with the
annual NASCAR Weekend at LVMS.
Schrader will attempt to qualify for the UAW-DaimlerChrysler 400 on Sunday
but does not have a guaranteed starting position. "This is the first
weekend that we don't have a guaranteed spot in the (Nextel) Cup race. Jon Wood
is in the No. 21 and I will be in the
No. 47, so we have to qualify on (lap) time. This guarantees me some racing this
weekend."
Schrader competes in approximately 60 dirt Late Model races each year. "We
ran last weekend in Texas, so to have this beautiful race facility in Vegas and
knowing that my car was already halfway here, how could I pass that up?"
Spectator gates will open each day at 4 p.m. with qualifying at 5 p.m. and
the first heat race at 6 p.m. For additional event information and
tickets, please call 1-800-644-4444 or visit www.lvms.com.
