SEPTEMBER 17, 2007 --- Tony Jones of Norco, Calif. returned to the Lucas
Oil USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series Saturday night at Perris (Calif.) Auto Speedway
and posted a hard-earned third-place finish to protect his series lead, which
stands at 131 points over Mike Spencer. The series visits Arizona this weekend
for races at Tucson’s USA Race Park Friday and Manzanita Speedway in Phoenix
Saturday.
Jones suffered a shoulder injury in a recent USAC/CRA race but appears ready
to make a stretch drive toward his first USAC title.
David Cardey of Riverside, Calif. earned his second series triumph at Perris,
leading all 30 laps in his ITI Performance/Empire Plumbing Bullet/Downing.
Spencer took second ahead of Jones, Rickie Gaunt and Scotty Weir. Cardey’s
first USAC victory came just two weeks ago at Perris.
Saturday night’s Phoenix race is the Sands Chevrolet “Hall of Fame”
Classic. Ricky Stenhouse Jr., Charles Davis and Jeremy Sherman have already
recorded USAC/CRA wins at the Manzanita oval this season. Scott Weir won the
April race at Tucson’s USA Race Park.
