September 10, 2007...Cory Kruseman of Ventura, Calif. won Saturday night’s 30-lap Lucas Oil USAC/CRA Sprint race at his home track – Ventura Raceway – leading the laps 13 laps after passing David Cardey on lap 18. Kruseman was piloting the Alexander Trucking/LaVilla Restaurant DRC as a replacement for the sidelined Tony Jones.
Jones continues to lead the series standings but is questionable as to the date for his return to competition after suffering a broken collar bone in a recent crash at Perris, Calif. The series returns to Perris Auto Speedway Saturday with Mike Spencer still 131 points behind Jones in the standings.
Spencer finished 19th at Ventura, where Kruseman was trailed by Danny Sheridan, Cardey, Tyler Brown and Michael Trimble. Garrett Hansen was the night’s fastest qualifier.
So far this year the series’ home track, Perris, has yielded victories to 10 different drivers. Jones has four wins, while Spencer has two. The single winners are Darren Hagen, Hansen, R.J. Johnson, Sheridan, Scotty Weir, Blake Miller, Kruseman and Cardey, who was the latest winner on September 1.
