(July 9, 2007) The Lucas Oil USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series is now on
hiatus, allowing its competitors the option to travel to the Midwest to
compete in USAC’s Lucas Oil “Indiana Sprint Week” events the next two
weeks. The USAC/CRA series resumes August 4 at the Perris (Calif.) Auto
Speedway.
Tony Jones of Norco, Calif. earned his fourth victory of 2007 Wednesday
night at Perris (Calif.) Auto Speedway, leading the final 21 laps of the
40-lap race in his La Villa Catering/Ferreira Dairy DRC/Conn. Cory Kruseman
finished second, followed by David Cardey, Rip Williams and Danny Sheridan.
Kruseman led the first 19 laps and Jones led the rest.
The victory put Jones in a commanding lead over runner-up Mike Spencer, who
trails by 177 points. Rickie Gaunt, who posted Wednesday night’s fastest
qualifying time, is third in the new standings.
The race originally scheduled at Hanford, Calif.’s Kings Speedway July 28
has been removed from the schedule. Track and USAC officials are seeking a
replacement date for the event and hope to make an announcement regarding a
new date soon.
