Nine different drivers have tasted victory in the first nine Lucas Oil USAC/CRA
Sprint races at Perris (Calif.) Auto Speedway this year. The track tries for a
10th different winner this Saturday when the series returns to the 1/2-mile dirt
oval.
Mike Spencer of Temecula, Calif., one of the nine who have won at The PAS in
2007, emerged the winner of Saturday’s 30-lap “shootout” at Santa Maria
(Calif.) Speedway, leading the final two laps in his Temecula Valley Pipe and
Supply/Arizona Race Mart Maxim/Shaver. Spencer was the last of five drivers to
lead the competitive race, passing Rodney Argo on the white-flag lap!
Davey Pombo finished second at Santa Maria, followed by fast qualifier Rickie
Gaunt, Argo and Jesse Mack. Other drivers to lead the race were Tom Stansberry,
Josh Ford and Jimmy Crawford. Spencer is the only driver of the five Santa Maria
leaders to win a USAC/CRA feature this season!
Tony Jones of Norco, Calif. has a 121-point lead over Spencer in the new CRA
standings after finishing sixth at Santa Maria. Gaunt is third but is only 30
behind Spencer going into Saturday’s Perris outing, which offers 74 total
points.
