APRIL 2, 2007 --- The USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series has produced
nine different race winners in nine events so far and a 10th could emerge when
the series makes its first 2007 visit this Saturday to USA Race Park in Tucson,
Ariz. A 30-lap feature event is on tap at the 3/8-mile dirt oval.
Damion Gardner and Jesse Hockett won last year’s two races at Tucson, but
neither has won in this year’s USAC/CRA competition. Both are expected to
compete in this season’s USAC National Sprint Car Series campaign.
Cory Kruseman of Ventura, Calif. became the ninth different series winner
Saturday at Kings Speedway in Hanford, Calif. He led all but the first lap to
win the 20-lapper in his Agromin Soil/Sander Engineering Bullet/Mopar. He passed
teammate Michael Trimble on lap two and led the rest of the way to beat Tyler
Brown, Scotty Weir, Rickie Gaunt and Davey Pombo. Fast qualifier Charles Davis
Jr. escaped injury in a flip during the feature.
The victory left Kruseman ninth in the new series standings behind point
leader Tony Jones, who finished sixth at Hanford. Jones has a 62-point lead over
Darren Hagen going into Saturday’s Tucson race.
Winners so far this year include Hagen, Ricky Stenhouse Jr., Garrett Hansen,
Mike Spencer, Tony Jones, Josh Wise, Charles Davis Jr., R.J. Johnson and
Kruseman.
Drivers Rickie Gaunt, Danny Sheridan, Rip Williams and Scotty Weir are all
ranked in the “top-10” in points but are still seeking their initial 2007
victory.
