MARCH 6, 2007 --- Defending USAC National Sprint Car Champion Josh Wise
of Riverside, Calif., 2005 National Champion Levi Jones of Olney, Ill. and
former two-time series titlist Brian Tyler of Mt. Pleasant, N.C. are the latest
USAC champions to join the field for this week’s “Las Vegas Classic”
USAC/CRA Sprint Car races at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway dirt track Thursday
and Friday nights.
Wise, Jones and Tyler join two-time series champ J.J. Yeley, who was
announced as a participant earlier in the week.
Wise will pilot a car fielded by Keith Kunz Motorsports of Columbus, Ind.,
while Jones will team with 2006 USAC National Sprint Car “Rookie of the
Year” Scott Weir in cars fielded by 2006 CRA car owner champion Glenn Crossno
of Alta Loma, Calif. Tyler will drive for long-time California entrant Anne
Wilkerson. Wise is coming off a 2006 season which included a victory in last
November’s “Western World Championships” at Manzanita Speedway in Phoenix,
Ariz. and Jones won five times en route to the 2005 crown.
Tyler’s last USAC Sprint car start produced a victory on the pavement at
Richmond International Raceway last June. He also is the reigning champion of
the grueling “Little 500” 500-lap pavement spectacular held each May at
Anderson, Ind.
All three of USAC’s CRA Sprint Car Champions are also entered. They are
defending titlist Cory Kruseman of Ventura, Calif., Damion Gardner of Concord,
Calif. and Rip Williams of Yorba Linda, Calif. Gardner won a series-high nine
features last year.
Williams ranks second in the current standings, just 26 points behind Tony
Jones of Corona, Calif., who is still seeking his first 2007 victory after
winning eight races in 2006.
