7-7-07 – Madera, CA --- Defending CASA, USAC Western States, and
“Best in the West” Series champion Tony Hunt hustled his maroon Alan
Kaiser owned sprinter, with the big number one on the tail, into victory lane
at Madera Speedway’s banked one-third mile paved oval after a hard fought
run to the front of a scheduled 50 lap feature event. The event was called
after 47 laps when rookie sprint car driver Richard Bailey took a hard tumble
and vaulted over the fence in turn one. Bailey was transferred to a local
hospital, treated and released but the delay caused race directors to call the
race official at that point.
Bailey, by virtue of his best yet qualifying effort started on the front
row and led lap one before being overtaken by Johnny Rodriguez on lap two.
Rodriguez held the point until lap 10 when two-time CASA champ Nick Rescino
took the top spot. Hunt took over on lap 18 and went on to post the win.
Heat races were won by CASA championship point leader Jo-Jo Helberg and
Greg Anderson, and Hunt was fast qualifier in time trials.
Next up: CASA will co-sanction with USAC Western States for round 5 of the
“Best in the West Series” when Altamont Motorsports Park hosts the
pavement pounding sprinters at their ultra-fast half-mile on Saturday July
14th. For more information on CASA activity, visit www.casaracing.com
