“Best in the West” Altamont to Rookie Tanner Swanson |

6-16-07 – Tracy, CA --- Young Tanner Swanson, in only his second sprint car race, led all 50 laps enroute to a CASA/USAC “Best in the West Series” feature event victory. Said proud dad, Mike Swanson, himself a multi-time champion in the late model ranks, “It took Kody (the elder brother) four races to win his first sprint feature – and it only took Tanner two…” The Swanson brothers share duty in the family owned number 17 and each have posted wins early in the campaign. Fast time honors went to two-time CASA champ Nick Rescino, Jr. aboard his number 11, and heat race wins were posted by Shauna Hogg and 2006 CASA Rookie of the Year Jo-Jo Helberg. In the 50 lap, non-stop tilt Tanner Swanson from the outside of row one bested defending CASA, USAC, and “Best in the West” champion Tony Hunt fresh from his Midwest endeavors, Roseville winner Ryan Kaplan in another fine drive, Rescino who rebounded from some difficult runs with a solid fourth place effort, and Greg Anderson who posted a fine top five run. Sixth place went to Jo-Jo Helberg, seventh to Brian McClish, eighth to Jim Kaiser, Shauna Hogg came home ninth, and Richard Bailey rounded out the top ten. Laura Hayes finished 11th followed by Eric Humphries, Brian Geiszler, Scott Clough, and Tim Barber. Matt DeMartini was credited with 16th place and 2003 CASA champion Tony Iacobitti who was forced to the sidelines with an oiling problem after one lap was 17th. In all, the action packed feature event was run in a brisk, caution free time of 14:26.98. Both heats were run caution free as well. Next up: CASA will co-sanction with USAC Western States for round 4 of the “Best in the West Series” when Madera Speedway welcomes the series back to the immaculate central valley locale on July 7th.
