Lawrenceburg, Indiana - October 9, 2007...Competing with the Midwest Sprint Car Series for the second weekend in a row Rocklin, CA native Robert Ballou kept up his torrid pace and took the checkered flag in first place to score his eighth wingless 410 sprint car victory in a row. The defending Golden State Challenge Series Rookie of the Year took home $10,000 for his efforts.
The previous weekend saw Robert beat a stacked field of MSCS sprint cars at Florence Speedway in Kentucky, and another stout field of cars converged this past Saturday at the Lawrenceburg Speedway Nationals. The MSCS doesn’t use qualifying in its format so qualifying heat races are an important part of the night. Robert was able to win his qualifying heat the previous week and he came back this past Saturday and did it again aboard the MPHG Promotions, Circle Racing Wheels, Gardemeyer/Finish/Carpentry No. 81.
This put Robert into the main event and even despite hurting the engine in the 81 machine during the feature, he was able to nurse the car home to pick up the big $10,000 to win Lawrenceburg Nationals. It was a heated last number of laps but the 18 year-old kept his foot on the loud pedal to make it eight wingless 410 sprint car wins in a row.
Robert’s "drive for nine" will come at this weekend’s inaugural ASCS Western World Wingless Championship at the Manzanita Speedway in Phoenix, Arizona. The event sponsored by Parker Store will be a two-night affair and upwards of 50 cars are expected to battle it out for the $5,000 top prize that will be awarded to Saturday’s feature winner.
