TULSA, Okla. (October 23, 2007) – The American Sprint Car Series Canyon Region puts the wraps on the 2007 season with this Saturday night's season finale at Central Arizona Raceway in Casa Grande, AZ.
In three previous stops for the ASCS Canyon Region at Central Arizona Raceway this season, there have been three different winners with current series points leader Jeremy Sherman topping the most recent event on September 15 after previous Casa Grande wins by Chad Boat and Charles Davis, Jr.
Hailing from Surprise, AZ, Sherman locked up the series championship this past weekend with his twelfth triumph in 19 events, stretching his lead to an insurmountable 163 markers over Davis, who has reached victory lane on five occasions this season.
Behind Sherman and Buckeye's Davis in the series points race is Mike Leslie of Litchfield Park, AZ, who ranks third on the strength of 13 top-tens in 19 events. Bob Ream, Jr., of Glendale is fourth with 12 top-tens, just a dozen markers ahead of Peoria's Josh Pelkey, who has posted eleven top-five finishes this season, which ranks only behind Sherman and Davis in the top-five finish category.
Mesa's Seainn Hendricsen is sixth, just 18 points ahead of Waddell's Shon Deskins, with Chandler's Andrew Reinbold another 30 markers back in eighth. Yuma's Mike Martin holds down the ninth position, with Glendale's Bernie Smith rounding out the current top ten, just 30 points ahead of Mesa rookie shoe Jeremy Reagles.
Other drivers just outside the top ten in points include Bobby Taylor (Tucson), 16-year-old rookie Nick Aiuto (Camp Verde), Chris Bonneau (Glendale) and Justin Fisher (Glendale).
Once again, $50 certificates will be awarded to each of the heat race winners, with Racing Optics sponsoring heat race one, Parker Store sponsoring heat race two, Kenz & Leslie/BG Chemicals sponsoring heat race three and Sunoco sponsoring heat race four. Arizona Race Mart sponsors the Pole Dash, while Sunoco will also award a $50 certificate to each "B" Main winner in ASCS Canyon Region action this year.
Saturday's racing action at Central Arizona Raceway goes green at 7:00 p.m.

The ASCS Canyon Region brings the best in wingless Sprint Car racing to Arizona in 2007 with a slate of 23 scheduled events. In addition to Manzanita Speedway, the series will also be in action at Tucson's USA Race Park and Casa Grande's Central Arizona Raceway over the course of the season.
The 2007 season marks the 16th year of sanctioning Sprint Car racing for the American Sprint Car Series, with the series set to sanction approximately 240 nights of racing at more than 100 different race tracks throughout at least 30 different states and Canada.
