TULSA, Okla. (September 24, 2007) – Jeremy Sherman and Charles Davis, Jr., will resume their rivalry in American Sprint Car Series Canyon Region action with this Saturday night's Buddy Taylor Memorial atop Manzanita Speedway's ½-mile clay oval in Phoenix, AZ.
The power duo of Sherman and Davis have combined to win 13 of 14 ASCS Canyon Region feature events thus far in 2007, with 15-year-old Chad Boat the only other driver to break into victory lane.
Davis picked off consecutive wins to run his season total to three triumphs before Sherman finally broke through to snare his first Casa Grande win of the year on September 15.
Sherman's tenth series win of the year allowed him to open his lead up to 151 markers over Davis, with just six nights of racing action remaining.
Sherman and Davis have monopolized victory lane in recent runnings of the Buddy Taylor Memorial as well, with Davis topping last year's edition following three consecutive Sherman victories in the annual event.
Finishing among the top ten in ten of 14 feature events is Bob Ream, Jr., who enters Saturday's Buddy Taylor Memorial ranked third in points. Ream is 18 points behind Davis and just a dozen points ahead of fourth-ranked Mike Leslie, with Josh Pelkey another twelve points back in fifth.
Andrew Reinbold is just another dozen points back in sixth in the heated ASCS Canyon Region points race, with Bernie Smith and Seainn Hendricsen entering Saturday's event tied for seventh. Shon Deskins and Mike Martin round out the current top ten.
Once again, $50 certificates will be awarded to each of the heat race winners, with Racing Optics sponsoring heat race one, Parker Store sponsoring heat race two, Kenz & Leslie/BG Chemicals sponsoring heat race three and Sunoco sponsoring heat race four. Arizona Race Mart sponsors the Pole Dash, while Sunoco will also award a $50 certificate to each "B" Main winner in ASCS Canyon Region action this year.
Saturday's Buddy Taylor Memorial at Manzanita Speedway fires off at 7:30 p.m.
