TULSA, Okla. (June 18, 2007) – Jeremy Sherman has been nearly flawless in the inaugural season of racing action for the American Sprint Car Series Canyon Region, reaching victory lane in seven of eight feature events thus far.
And those victories have come atop both the ½ and 1/3-mile ovals at Manzanita Speedway as well as Tucson's USA Race Park. The one place Sherman hasn't sipped the victory champagne is at Central Arizona Raceway in Casa Grande, AZ.
Sherman will have the opportunity to change that this Saturday night, as the ASCS Canyon Region invades Central Arizona Raceway for the second time this season.
In the series first visit to Casa Grande on May 12, 15-year-old Chad Boat put a stop to Sherman's four-race win streak, forcing Sherman to settle for second.
Since that time however, Sherman has claimed three more consecutive wins and extended his series point lead to 116 markers over Josh Pelkey, who lost ground following an early exit in Saturday night's Hank Arnold Memorial at Manzanita.
In a tight battle for third, Bernie Smith is just two points ahead of Mike Leslie, with Bob Ream, Jr., another four points back in fifth.
Mike Martin enters Saturday's card ranked sixth, just eight points ahead of Andrew Reinbold. Charles Davis, Jr., has climbed to eighth in points on the strength of five runner-up finishes despite missing one event, with Shon Deskins and Seainn Hendricsen completing the current top ten.
Just outside the top ten are 16-year-old Michael Colegrove, rookie contender Nick Aiuto and Bruce St. James.
Once again, $50 certificates will be awarded to each of the heat race winners, with Racing Optics sponsoring heat race one, Parker Store sponsoring heat race two, Kenz & Leslie/BG Chemicals sponsoring heat race three and Sunoco sponsoring heat race four. Arizona Race Mart sponsors the Pole Dash, while Sunoco will also award a $50 certificate to each "B" Main winner in ASCS Canyon Region action this year.
Saturday's racing action goes green at 7:00 p.m.
The high-banked, 3/8-mile Central Arizona Raceway clay oval is located is located in Casa Grande, AZ, off I-10 Exit 194, then seven miles east on State Road 287 at the fairgrounds. For more information, contact the track at 520-723-8888.
The ASCS Canyon Region brings the best in wingless Sprint Car racing to Arizona in 2007 with a slate of 24 events. In addition to Manzanita Speedway, the series will also be in action at Tucson's USA Race Park and Casa Grande's Central Arizona Raceway over the course of the season.
