HUNT EXTENDS LEAD WITH IRWINDALE TRIUMPH
|
August 28, 2006...USAC Western Sprint Car championship hopefuls are facing a critical weekend with races Saturday and Monday at Tracy and Madera, Calif. respectively.
Saturday’s “Best of the West Open Wheel Night” at Tracy’s Altamont Motorsports Park and Monday’s “Trigueiro Classic” at Madera Speedway will showcase stars of both USAC and CASA in a pair of 40-lap features.
Tony Hunt of Lincoln, Calif. currently leads both the USAC and CASA standings and has won five of the last six USAC Western Sprint Car feature events! His latest victory came Saturday night as he piloted the Thompson Toyota/Paul Oil Eagle/Chevy to a 40-lap win at Irwindale (Calif.) Speedway. He passed Nick Green on lap six and led the rest of the way to beat Kody Swanson, Bradley Galedrige, Tim Barber and Green.
Mike Murgoitio trails Hunt by 87 points, while Swanson has climbed to third in the new USAC standings. A total of 148 points are available in this weekend’s two events.
