IRWINDALE SPRINT RACE COULD BE PIVOTAL
AS HUNT, MURGOITIO BATTLE FOR WESTERN CROWN
|
August 21, 2006 –This Saturday night’s USAC Western Sprint Car race at Irwindale (Calif.) Speedway not only serves as a prelude to the season-ending race at the same track in November, it also could play a pivotal role in determining this year’s series champion!
Two-time champion Tony Hunt of Lincoln, Calif. will aim for a series-record 21st feature win in the 50-lap main event on the 1/2-mile paved oval. Tony has won five of this year’s nine features, but Murgoitio has stayed close in the points race with “top-six” finishes in all nine races!
Murgoitio is seeking his third career triumph but first this season at Irwindale. He trails Hunt by 54 points with 74 available Saturday. Bradley Galedrige, a feature winner earlier this year, ranks third in the standings, followed by defending series champion Kody Swanson and lady driver Shauna
Hogg.
