June 12, 2006..The USAC/CASA “Best of the West” Sprint Cars converge on Altamont Motorsports Park again Saturday for the next round in USAC’s Western Sprint Car Series and point leaders Tony Hunt and Bradley Galedrige should have their hands full holding onto their 1-2 rankings.
The USAC Western Midgets and California Ford Focus Pavement Midgets are also part of the “tripleheader” at the Tracy, Calif. facility and the Sprint car feature is 50 laps on the 1/2-mile.
Galedrige won at Tracy on May 13 and Hunt took the series opener at Stockton, Calif. in April but defending series champion Kody Swanson, currently fourth in the standings, has two wins this season and trails leader Hunt by only 49 points. A total of 74 points are available Saturday.
Mike Murgoitio of Boise, Idaho, who has yet to win this season, ranks third in the standings after four “top-six” finishes in four starts. Murgoitio was the 2004 USAC Rookie of the Year and 2005 Most Improved Driver.
Hunt currently leads both the USAC and CASA series standings.
