April 17, 2006...The USAC Western and California Asphalt Sprintcar Association (CASA) Sprint cars will compete in this Saturday’s “Gerhardt Open Wheel Classic” at Stockton (Calif.) 99 Speedway, a program also featuring the USAC Western Midgets.
The Sprint car feature is 50 laps, while the Midgets compete in a 100-lapper.
Defending series champions are Kody Swanson of Kingsburg, Calif. (USAC) and Nick Rescino Jr. of San Francisco, Calif., while Swanson won USAC’s 2005 Rookie of the Year honors and CASA points runnerup Nick Green was that series’ 2005 ROY.
The Stockton event opens USAC’s 2006 Western Sprint Car campaign after rains washed out not only the April 1 race at Anderson, Calif. but also last weekend’s events at Meridian Speedway in Boise, Idaho. Friday’s Boise program was halted during qualifications and USAC and track officials are working to try to reschedule the event later in 2006,
The USAC Young Automotive Rocky Mountain Sprint Car Series, slated to open at Boise, will now get under way April 29 at Rocky Mountain Raceways in Salt Lake City, Utah.
