March 27, 2006... Tim Barber of San Francisco, Calif., who finished third in Saturday’s 100-mile Silver Crown Championship race at Homestead-Miami Speedway in Florida, headlines this Saturday’s field of entrants for the 2006 USAC Western Sprint Car Series opener at Shasta Raceway Park in Anderson, Calif.
Saturday’s USAC/CASA co-sanctioned race features stars of both the USAC Western Sprint Car Series and the California Asphalt Sprintcar Association.
Barber, who was USAC’s 2000 Russell Pro Triple Crown driving champion, came from ninth in Saturday’s Silver Crown race to finish third behind Brian Tyler and Aaron Pierce. Barber also finished third in last year’s prestigious “Little 500” USAC Sprint car enduro at Anderson, Ind.
He’ll face some stiff competition in this Saturday’s 50-lapper, including defending Western Sprint Car Champion Kody Swanson of Kingsburg, Calif., former Western Sprint Car Champion Tony Hunt of Fair Oaks, Calif., 2005 Shasta race winner Mike Murgoitio of Meridian, Idaho and lady driver Shauna Hogg of Citrus Heights, Calif.
Nick Rescino, Jr. is the defending CASA Champion, having edged Nick Green by just nine points for the 2005 title.
