(Oxnard,
CA 11-14-06) Ventura
Raceway will be holding a special conclusion to their 2006 season this Saturday
night November 18 at 5:30pm. On that night two classes of racing will be
featured that will keep the fans in attendance on the edge of their seats from
the opening heats to the final lap of the final feature event.
VRA Sprints and USAC National Ford Focus Midgets will be racing in this
final event at Ventura for the 2006 season.
Saturday
night Ventura Raceway will crown its 2006 VRA 360 Sprint Car Series Champion, as
they hold their last event of the year. Current
point leader Luis Espinoza will be going for his first VRA Championship in his
number 09 sprint car. He will be
trying to hold off his closest challenger, Greg Taylor, who has been closing in
on him for the past month and now trails by 700 points with 1050 points
available on Saturday night. Greg
Taylor can catch Espinoza if he has a top finish and Luis does not make the main
event or finishes at the bottom of the main event finishing order.
If Espinoza makes the main event and finishes 14th or better,
he will clinch regardless of what Taylor does on Saturday night.
Drivers throughout the points standings will also be trying to improve
their final point’s positions leading up to our awards banquet to be held
early in 2007.
The
second part of the program Saturday night will be round one of the USAC National
Ford Focus Midget Championships. This
race will determine the dirt
track
portion of the championship. The
pavement portion will be determined at Irwindale Speedway on November 23 as a
part of the Turkey Night Grand Prix event.
The results from the two-races will then be combined to determine who
will be the 2006 USAC National Ford Focus Champion. Drivers from all over the
United States have been invited to this special event.
California Dirt Champion Bobby Michnowicz will lead the Western
contingent in this event. To be
eligible for the National Championship drivers must compete in both of the
series races here and at Irwindale Speedway.
Both events feature 50 lap main events.
Saturday
night Ventura Raceway concludes another season of great racing. Once again we
want to thank the fans, teams, drivers and track personnel who have made 2006 a
successful year. We will be back
for our 30th season in 2007 with more exciting short track racing
action that you will want to be a part of.
