(Oxnard, CA 6/26/06)This Saturday night July 1, at
5:30pm, will see Ventura Raceway present a special program of VRA Sprint Car,
USAC Midget, VRA/USAC Ford Focus, VRA Junior Focus and VRA Pony Stocks at its
Ventura County Fairgrounds Facility.
Last week Chris Wakim took the VRA 360 Sprint Car Main
Event in one of the best features ever witnessed at Ventura.
For the last ten laps of the race the lead changed hands between Jeremy
Ellertson and Wakim. At the same
time Troy Rutherford had moved to third from his eighteenth starting position
and was gaining on Wakim and Ellertson. Wakim
got by Ellertson and then Rutherford did the same.
At the checkered flag, Wakim took the win with Rutherford close behind
him and Ellertson just behind Rutherford. Luis
Espinoza came from tenth starting position to finish a strong fourth place.
These drivers will be back this weekend to do battle again against all
the top VRA sprint drivers.
The USAC Midgets are making their fourth visit to Ventura
this weekend. Chris Rahe took the
win on June 10. He will be here to
go for two in a row against all the best Western States Midget drivers. A very special guest driver will also be there Saturday
night. NHRA star Frank Pedregon will be at Ventura to race in the USAC Midgets.
Point leader Jerome Rodela and last weeks winner at Bakersfield, Robby
flock will also be racing this Saturday.
Along with the midgets, the VRA/USAC Ford Focus Midgets and
VRA Junior Focus Midgets will also race. Cameron
Veach took the win on June 10 in VRA/Focus racing while Cody Kershaw took the
VRA Junior Focus race. All these
drivers will be back Saturday to continue their challenge for their respective
Championships. VRA/USAC Ford Focus
point leader and winner on June 24 at Bakersfield, Bobby Michnowicz will also be
competing.
The final class Saturday night will be the VRA Pony Stocks. Last week’s winner and current point leader Jack Hoyt will
be going for his fourth victory of the season.
He will be racing against the best drivers in this entry level series.
Once again the rear wheel drive racers will try to get a win over the new
front wheel drive cars that have dominated the series so far in 2006.
Front gates open at 3:30 with racing at 5:30pm. Admission
prices are: $14.00 for adults, $11.00 for Senior/Military and Juniors, $5.00 for
