(Oxnard, CA 4/24/06) The third race of the 2006 season at Ventura Raceway takes to
the track this coming Saturday April 29, with a full program of exciting racing
action. Four adult classes and two
junior classes will race hard and fast around Ventura Raceway’s tight 1/5-mile
clay oval located at the Ventura County Fairgrounds in Ventura, CA.
VRA 360 Sprint Cars will once again
headline the evening with all out pedal to the metal racing excitement.
Last week 39 of these powerful, 600+ horsepower, racers signed into the
pits with visiting USAC/CRA regular Josh Ford taking the win.
He out raced several outstanding drivers, including new points leader
Troy Rutherford, Danny Sheridan, Jimmy Crawford, Steve Conrad, opening night
winner Greg Taylor and the other sixteen drivers who made up the twenty-two car
starting field for the
thirty-lap feature event.
Many of these drivers will be back tonight to try to get their first win
of the new season. Rutherford’s second place finish put him into the season
point’s lead followed by Crawford, Taylor, Conrad and Luis Espinoza.
Also returning to action Saturday night
will be the VRA Pony Stocks. Jack
Hoyt made history on opening night April 8, when he took the win with a front
wheel drive car. This was the first
time a front wheel drive car has won a feature event at Ventura in this class.
His Pontiac Grand Am will be back this weekend to try for two wins in a
row. All the other drivers in the
class, including 2005 point’s runner-up Andrew Greiman, will be trying to be
sure that this does not happen.
IMCA Modifieds opened their Ventura
Season last weekend with Jack Parker taking a hard fought win over Gary Curtis.
These two drivers battled lap after lap, wheel to wheel, to see who would
come out on top. Parker held off Curtis to win the race and take the points
lead for the new season. When not
racing, Parker is Ventura Raceways fuel, tire and parts vendor. Bill Waltman
took third, followed by David Addamo and Tom Topping. We expect to see these drivers continue the exciting racing
from last week again this Saturday night.
Our fourth adult class for Saturday is
our VRA Dwarf Cars. They are back
to try to get their season started after being rained out in their first two
attempts. Racing in two divisions,
Seniors and Professional, the Dwarf Cars always put on great racing. These
downsized 1930’s style sedans and trucks powered by 1100-1200 cc motorcycle
engines race hard and fast. Last
year’s Pro Division Champion Brian Saxton will be back to try to take another
championship.
The final two classes racing on
Saturday are making their competitive debut at Ventura.
Mini Dwarfs, for drivers 5-12 years old and Junior Midgets, for drivers
11-16 years old will compete for the first time. These classes will compete on a smaller infield track.
Mini Dwarfs resemble their larger full size dwarf car counterparts, but
are powered by 5hp engines. This
allows younger children to get racing experience and develop their skill that
will lead them to higher and faster classes, as they grow older.
The Junior Midgets are a faster open wheeled car that looks like small
sprint car. They are powered by 15
hp engines giving them good racing speeds on the short infield track.
Front gates open at 3:30pm with racing
getting under way at 3:30pm for the junior classes and 5:00pm for the adult
classes. Pit gates open at 12:00
noon. Admission prices are: Adults: $14.00, Seniors, Military and Students:
$11.00, Children 7-12: $5.00 and kids 6 and under free. For more information, give Ventura Raceway a call at (805)
