Jones, the defending series champion, and Wise were the two fastest qualifiers for the June race and enter Friday night’s race separated by just two points in one of the tightest point races in series history. A 30-lap feature is on tap.
Wise took the point lead away from Jones Saturday night, finishing fourth at Tri-State Speedway in Haubstadt, Ind. Jones was leading Saturday’s feature when he flipped on lap 24, his car ending up hung up on the track’s catch fencing. Jones was not injured in the incident.
Daron Clayton of Sikeston, Mo. scored his first USAC feature victory in the 40-lap USAC/MSCS race, leading the last 18 laps after Jones’ accident. He and his Clayton Fabrication/Weld Racing DRC/Foxco were trailed at the checkered flag by Mat Neely, Dave Darland, Wise and Bryan
