WEATHERMAN TELLS THUNDERBOWL RACEWAY TO PROCEED WITH GSC SERIES
by Dan Fleischer
April 25, 2006...After canceling the first two scheduled Golden State Challenge events at Thunderbowl Raceway due to inclement weather, the weatherman predicts clears skies for this Saturday, thus allowing the “King of California” Series to hold its first of five 2006 appearances at the Tulare Fairgrounds facility.

Headlining the list of top contenders is Jonathan Allard, fresh from his GSC win at Petaluma last weekend. Allard will face stiff competition from the likes of five former series champions including Brent Kaeding, Ronnie Day (2000), Steve Kent (1986-87), Jason Statler (2004), and defending champion, Sean Becker. Kaeding, the 12-time series champion, captured his first of four in-a-row from 1988 thru 1991. After being dethroned by Tim Green in 1992, Kaeding came back to win five straight from 1993 through 1997. His other titles came in 1999, 2001 and 2003. Last Saturday night, he finished second to Allard in the Main event at Petaluma.

Adding to the mix of outstanding drivers is National Sprint Tour “Outlaw” star Jason Meyers, who has a rare night off from the national touring series. He currently stands second in points behind Tim Kaeding, Brent’s son. Others standouts include, Robert Ballou, Kyle Hirst, Jason York, Dennis Moore Jr., and local area favorites Brian Coelho, Peter Murphy and Ricci Faria.

Switching his natural racing talents from boats to four-wheelers will be Mark Workentine, the 2004 Top Fuel Hydro Boat champion. He will make only his second appearance behind the wheel of a potent sprinter after debuting at Petaluma last weekend.
These stars are eager to don their racing gear, buckle up in their 410 c.i. winged sprinters and take to the track in search of not only the event “purse” and points, but the $4,500 first place prize from the huge $10,000 season-long point fund offered by Tulare promoter Steve Faria.

Accompanying the winged GSC series will be SCRA’s 360 c.i. non-winged cars with talented drivers Danny Olmstead, Richard Harvey Jr., Jonathan Logan, Evan Suggs, and Davey Pombo. They will be joined by Faria, Murphy, Kaeding and Robert Ballou, all of whom plan on doing “double duty.”

Fans are encouraged to bring their FM radios and/or headsets and tune into the trackside chatter between track officials, and to hear the “blow-by-blow” action via the PA announcer.

Individual or SEASON tickets can be purchased by visiting Thunderbowl’s website www.thunderbowlraceway.com: click on “seating chart,” select your favorite spot and call for reservations at 559/688-0909. Gates open at 5:00 pm, qualifying at 6:00 pm and racing begins at 7:00. Thunderbowl Raceway is located within the Tulare County Fairgrounds, corner of “K” St. and Bardsley in the heart of Tulare.
