February 6, 2006...Thunderbowl Raceway is hoisting the gauntlet in the
form of a $10,000 season-long point fund to all drivers competing in the 410 c.i.
winged events in 2006, commencing with the inaugural National Sprint Tour
extravaganza on February 24th & 25th.
The year-end point winner will receive a whopping $4,500, with the second
through fifth-place finishers receiving $2,500, $1,500, $1,000 and $500
respectively. Points will be awarded to drivers for participating in any of the
11 events, their qualifying and finishing positions.
Complete details on the awarding of points will be announced shortly.
Other exciting news from Thunderbowl includes the announcement that
SEASON TICKETS will be available this year for the first time. The package includes two visits by the newly formed NST group
(each a two-day show), the two-day TROPHY CUP show and seven GOLDEN STATE
CHALLENGE events. The NST and
TROPHY CUP events offer reserved seating for both Grandstands and Bleachers,
while the GSC series will offer reserved Grandstand seats but “open”
Bleacher seats. Additionally, a
program is being finalized to offer tickets ON-LINE by the end of this month.
Complete information can be obtained by calling Thunderbowl’s ticket office at
559/688-0909.
Thunderbowl is also pleased to announce that the WESTERN EXTREME DIRT
LATE MODEL series has been added to this year’s schedule.
They will compete as an extra-added attraction with the GSC winged
sprinters on Saturday, May 20th.
A new, enlarged ticket booth “midway”
area is in the final stages of development. Promoter Steve Faria has
construction crews hard at work moving the outside chain-linked fences
(surrounding the Grandstands) back several feet to provide additional room for
“vendors” to offer a wider variety of refreshments and merchandise. Al
Pombo, the legendary modified driver who thrilled fans for decades on the
Central Valley racing scene, will personally offer merchandise in his booth
during all the GSC events scheduled on April 1, 15, 29, May 20, June 24 and July
21/22. Pombo will be honored during the July dates along with his late rival and
friend, Marshall Sargent, an event designated as the Pombo/Sargent Classic.
Another improvement on tap is a new, improved P.A. system which will
enable the fans to hear the announcer during the events.
