January 4, 2006...Tulare’s Thunderbowl Raceway has an expanded,
ambitious, exciting racing schedule for the upcoming year. Promoter Steve Faria has announced he will host the first-ever,
NATIONAL SPRINT TOUR Outlaws series, featuring the greatest sprint car
driver of all time, Steve Kinser. Kinser
will be joined by Danny “The Dude” Lasoski, who has signed-on to drive
Dennis Roth’s No. 83 Beef Packers’ machine, hometown favorite Jason Meyers,
who hails from Clovis, and several other talented drivers who previously
competed with the WOO including Joey Saldana and Paul McMahan. The new series,
featuring the breathtaking 410 ci. winged sprint cars, will appear twice, each
consisting of two-day shows, on February 24th & 25th and again in the Fall,
on October 13th & 14th.
After hosting only two GOLDEN STATE CHALLENGE events last year,
Thunderbowl will host a hefty seven (7) events in 2006. This exciting series
will appear on April 1, April 15, April 29, May 20, (designated as the Chris
Faria Memorial), June 24, and on July 21/22, honoring legendary hero’s Al
Pombo and Marshall Sargent. This
popular series, which has been in existence for many years, features standout
drivers like 13-time “King of California” Champion Brent Kaeding, and other
past champions Steve Kent, Jason Statler, Ronnie Day, and local hero’s Mike
and Danny Faria, Tommy Tarlton, and Peter Murphy, the transplanted Australian.
Another exciting event on the schedule is the TROPHY CUP,
a 360 ci. winged sprint car show, returning to Thunderbowl after an overwhelming
successful debut at the local facility last October.
The Trophy Cup, which benefits the Make-A-Wish Foundation, generated in
excess of $35,000 from last Fall’s event.
Dave Pusateri, who heads the Trophy Cup event, hopes to improve upon that
amount when the two-day show takes place on November 3rd and 4th. Most of the notable drivers listed in the preceding paragraph
hop into their smaller powered cars to navigate the 1/3-mile dirt track.
Discussions are currently underway to bring the USAC/CRA 410 ci.
wingless sprint cars and their midget division back to Tulare after an absence
of several years. The “Wingless
Warriors” series features the likes of Damion Gardner, Rip Williams, Mike
Kirby and Cory Kruseman with their “back-um-in” style of throwing the cars
sideways as they enter the turns.
Tickets for the National Sprint Tour’s February appearance are
currently on sale and can be obtained by calling 559/688-0909.
For the convenience of racing fans, a seating chart is featured on the
Thunderbowl website, www.thunderbowlraceway.com.
