Marysville, CA - March 22, 2006...The smell of burning alcohol and the
sound of roaring engines will have to wait another week at Twin Cities
Speedway in Marysville. Inclement weather, its damage and the forecast of more
has prompted cancellation of the events scheduled for this Saturday. The
playday rescheduled for Tuesday the 28th has also been put on hold
until the weather system’s influence can be assessed.
Promoters Greg and Linda Kearns will now host Opening Day on Saturday April
1st. The four primary divisions will kick 2006 into high gear.
The Winged Pacific Sprint Cars, the Hunt Magneto Wingless Warriors Sprint
Car Series, the Riebes Racing Series Stock Cars and the TCS Mini Stocks will
headline a 4-division show.
Regarding the loss of the point races scheduled for this Saturday, Kearns
said that there are several available make-up dates for point races. It’s
likely that the Riebes Racing Series Stock Car race will be made up by
having the final point race run in conjunction with the Dwarf Car Nationals
on Friday night September 29th. The TCS Mini Stock final point
race would be run the next night September 30th in conjunction
with the Dwarf Car National final event. This is not new as the 2003 Mini
Stock championship was decided with a similar make up date. Drivers that
I’ve talked to in all three divisions affected by this week’s
cancellations were hopeful that the dates would be made up.
One championship hopeful quipped, “That’s why we do this thing. It’s
all about the points. The point races need to be made up…we need every
opportunity to race.”
Promoter Greg Kearns agrees. Earlier in the week Kearns was already
discussing how and when the washed out dates would be rescheduled. There are
a number of opportunities in September. In addition to the scenario
discussed above, the final Hunt Magneto Wingless Sprint Car Series race
could be scheduled during the unique “Double Nationals” event or on
October 7th when the BCRA Midgets will be in town as a support
series to the Hunt Wingless Warriors.
As the anticipated season comes closer, the excitement level has never been
higher. New and better purse structures for the Riebes Racing Series Stock
Cars and the TCS MiniStocks have record numbers of participants waiting in
the wings.
On April 1st the grandstand gates open at 5PM with racing getting
the green flag at 7PM. Qualifying for the Pacific Sprint Cars will kick off
at 6.30.
