FITZGERALD-WYSONG SQUARE OFF FOR UTAH SUPERMACY
SATURDAY AT ROCKY MOUNTAIN RACEWAYS
|
June 19, 2006...Dave Fitzgerald and Jimmy Wysong of Salt Lake City, Utah will compete for the title of USAC’s winningest driver in Utah history Saturday when the 2006 USAC/SLVRA Young Automotive Rocky Mountain Sprint Car Series resumes at Rocky Mountain Raceways in the Utah capital.
Each driver has a dozen USAC victories since USAC’s inaugural Utah event in 1972. Mel Kenyon won that debut Midget event at Suntana Raceway in Springville, about 40 miles south of Salt Lake City.
Fitzgerald’s last USAC win came in 2004, while Wysong has won nine of the last 12 at RMR, including four in a row. All of Wysong’s wins have come in Sprint Cars, while Fitzgerald’s total includes nine in supermodifieds. Dave was USAC’s 1985 and 1986 Utah Supermodified Champion and Jimmy won last year’s USAC/SLVRA Sprint title.
Wysong leads Fitzgerald by only 14 points despite his proficiency this year. He’s undefeated so far in the series, while Fitzgerald has posted three seconds and a third.
A fifth consecutive victory would place Wysong in select company. Larry Dickson holds the National Sprint car consecutive victory record at six (1968), while Parnelli Jones is the only other driver to win five straight (1964).
